Who May Use SkillMatch
SkillMatch is intended for adults in the United States. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, information generated when you use the Service, and limited technical information needed to operate and protect the Service.
Account and profile information
Depending on your account type and how you use SkillMatch, we may collect:
- Name, username, email address, and phone number
- Mailing, work, delivery, or service address
- Profile photo, biography, trades, work history, availability, and portfolio content
- Business name, website, and other business information
- Account role, preferences, and verification status
Marketplace, project, and communication content
We may collect:
- Projects, bids, job-style listings, marketplace listings, offers, saved items, and reviews
- Direct messages and in-app notification preferences
- Photos, videos, documents, and other files you upload
- Support messages and information you send when contacting us
Insurance and verification information
If you upload an insurance certificate, we may collect the document and information extracted from it, such as the insured name, carrier, policy number, coverage type, expiration date, and review status. Uploaded certificates may be reviewed by authorized operations personnel.
If you use an identity-check or payout-onboarding flow, the verification provider may collect identity, tax, business, or banking information directly from you. SkillMatch may receive limited status information needed to confirm whether a verification or onboarding step is complete.
Location information
With your permission, SkillMatch collects your device location while you use the app to show nearby projects, listings, advertisements, and distance-based results. SkillMatch does not request background location access for App Store use. You can change location access in iOS Settings.
Payments, subscriptions, taxes, and payouts
Apple processes SkillMatch Premium subscriptions through StoreKit in-app purchase. Stripe processes payment-method setup, marketplace payments, sales-tax calculations, identity checks, and payout onboarding.
We may store limited records needed to operate these flows, such as transaction identifiers, subscription status, payment-method metadata, tax-calculation records, delivery addresses used to calculate sales tax, payout status, and connected-account status. Full payment-card details are handled by the payment processor and are not stored by SkillMatch.
Device, analytics, and service information
We may collect:
- Push-notification tokens
- Basic device, app, and authentication information
- Service logs, diagnostics, and crash information
- App activity needed to operate features, prevent abuse, and improve reliability
Automated Processing and AI-Assisted Features
SkillMatch uses automated tools, including AI-assisted services, to support certain features. These tools may:
- Suggest editable listing descriptions or profile improvements
- Extract information from uploaded insurance certificates
- Summarize insurance-review queues for authorized operations personnel
- Help identify whether an uploaded certificate needs manual review
AI-assisted output may be incomplete or inaccurate. It is used to support the Service and operations review, not as a substitute for professional advice or a guarantee that a document, user, listing, or service provider is accurate, qualified, insured, or suitable.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create, secure, and manage accounts
- Authenticate users and support sign-in providers
- Display profiles, projects, listings, portfolios, bids, offers, messages, and reviews
- Match users with nearby opportunities and relevant advertisements
- Send transactional alerts, push notifications, and support responses
- Process Premium subscriptions, marketplace purchases, sales tax, and payouts
- Review uploaded insurance certificates and track coverage status
- Provide AI-assisted suggestions and operations tools
- Detect fraud, abuse, unsafe activity, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service
- Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations
How We Share Information
We may share information:
- With other SkillMatch users when you publish a profile, project, listing, bid, review, portfolio item, or other content intended to be visible to them
- With the users involved in a marketplace transaction, project, or message thread as needed to provide the Service
- With service providers that support hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, notifications, AI-assisted processing, identity checks, payments, taxes, and payouts
- With Apple for Premium subscriptions and with Stripe for payment, identity, tax, and payout flows
- When required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, enforce our terms, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect rights and safety
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not use personal information for cross-app tracking.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce agreements, and maintain required business, payment, and tax records.
When you delete your account in the app, we remove or de-identify account information that is no longer needed. Some records may be retained when required for payment, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, safety, legal, or dispute-resolution purposes. Information retained by third-party providers is subject to their own retention practices and legal obligations.
Your Choices
You can:
- Update profile information in the app
- Control location access in iOS Settings
- Control push notifications in iOS Settings
- Manage Premium subscriptions through your Apple account
- Delete your SkillMatch account from Billing & Settings > Account > Delete Account
- Contact us with privacy questions or requests
To submit a privacy request, email theskillmatchapp@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
SkillMatch is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly permit children under 18 to use the Service. If you believe a child has provided information to SkillMatch, contact us.
Third-Party Services
The Service may link to or integrate with third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Review those policies before providing information directly to a third party.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at the public privacy-policy URL and revise the effective date above. If required by law, we will provide additional notice.
